Lambeth is a
london Borough in the heart of London with a population of nearly
275,000 people. Formed in 1965, Lambeth was created from the
previous Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth and the Metropolitan
Borough of Wandsworth.
The borough is well known for its diverse and varied culture and a
rich and vibrant venue for live music and culture.
Lambeth doesn't have a main town centre but is built around several
shopping areas including Clapham, Brixton and Vauxhall. With its
large population, Lambeth has the highest population density of all
the inner London boroughs.
There are several landmarks in Lambeth. Most of these are based
around the South Bank area that is popular with tourists (with icons
such as the London Eye and the Hayward Gallery based on the river)
Other buildings of note include All Saints Church, Lambeth Palace
and the Florence Nightingale Museum (which is open to the public
seven days a week). The museum faces the Palace of Westminster
across the River Thames.
The popular South London Theatre is based in Lambeth and has been
showing plays for over forty years now. The theatre is a member of
the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain and has a basement bar
underneath the main theatre.
Transport links to Lambeth are superb. There are lots of railway and
tube stations in Lambeth giving commuters access to all parts of
London. These include Clapham High Street railway station, Waterloo
station, Brixton railway station and Vauxhall station.
Tube stations in Lambeth include Clapham Common tube station (and
Clapham north and south tube station), Lambeth North tube station,
Vauxhall station, Brixton tube station and Oval tube station.
