& Dublin South Town GuideDublin South, with an electoral roll of over 90,000 people is a consituency in Dáil Éireann (a house of the Irish Parliament) and covers Dundrum, Mount Merrion, Kilmacud, Stillorgan, Rathfarnham, Goatstwon, Ballinteer, Stepaside, Sandyford and Ballyboden.
Historically, the Dublin South constituency was recreated in 1981 (after being abolished in 1948) and was used for the Dáil Election.
Dublin is known as a important area for Irish Art. Trinity College has the Book of Kells on display. This famous manuscript was created by Celtic Monks and is an example of Insular Art. Several other famous manuscripts, paintings, drawings, prints and art are on display at the City's Chester Beatty Library. Some of the work at the Chester Beatty Library dates back to nearly 3000 B.C. and have been sourced from all around the world.
Dublin has several large scale art galleries such as the National Gallery, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the City Arts Centre, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery and the Project Arts Centre. The galleries have a huge range of work on display and are are renowned as a fascinating visit for locals and tourists alike.
Dublin is also renowned for its live music scene. Live music plays a big part in the city and can be found in many venues in Dublin and on the streets. Dublin has also produced many popular and successful musical artists in recent years including U2, Thin Lizzy and Boyzone.
Dublin has several cinemas range from small special-interest cinemas to large scale multiscreen cinemas. Some can be found in the city while others are on the outskirts of Dublin.
Dublin City is renowned of its large number of shopping centres and the suburban areas also have a number of shopping centres inducing The Square, Blanchardstown Centre, the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and the Northside Shopping Centre.
Dublin offers a variety of sports and sporting organisations. Gaelic football, rugby, soccer and hurling are the most popular sports in Dublin and the city is home to the large Croke Park stadium with a capacity of over 80,000 people. The stadium is also the head quarters for the Gaelic Athletic Association but also hosts Hurling and Gaelic football matches. On occasions the stadium has been used as a music venue with Robbie Williams and U2 the most notable acts to have played there.
The other famous stadium in Dublin is Lansdowne Road. With a capacity of nearly 50,000 the stadium is currently being demolished to make was for a new all-seater stadium that is due by 2009. Until the new stadium is completed, international soccer matches and rugby union matches will be played at the Croke Park stadium.
Transport links to Dublin are excellent due to the city being the main hub of the Ireland road network. The busiest road in Ireland, the M50, runs around the city with several smaller inner and outer orbital routes.
By sea and air, Dublin can be travelled to via Dublin Port (the country's busiest port and Dublin Airport. The airport is the 14th busiest airport in Europe and over 20 million people use it every year.
